PAMIC UPDATES

Pennsylvania Association of Mutual Insurance Companies

ABOUT US

The Pennsylvania Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (PAMIC) is a trade association that has proudly represented the Mutual Insurance Industry since 1907. Our membership comprises some of the most historic companies in the industry, along with new companies who are thriving under the same model. Today our member groups represent many property and casualty insurers licensed to do business in Pennsylvania. While we are based in Pennsylvania, PAMIC membership represents the majority of the Mid-Atlantic region. Our companies hail from: Ohio, Michigan, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, West Virginia and Virginia.

Beyond mutual companies, we represent over 130 market members who are crucial in upholding the value and operations of our member groups. Some examples of our associates are: law firms, accounting firms, reinsurance companies, restoration companies and technology firms. Our mission is to continue the illustrious history of the Mutual Insurance Industry through our three pillars: Advocacy, Education, and Networking.

Meet Our New President, Sarah DiCello

Sarah DiCello comes to PAMIC with a strong association management, marketing, and communication background. Her experience and skill set are ideal for moving PAMIC forward in the coming years. Sarah began working in communications and marketing for the Pennsylvania Landscape and Nursery Association. She followed this with a Communications and Marketing Manager position for the International Association for the Leisure and Entertainment Industry. In both positions, Sarah served as the editor for the association’s publications and marketed the association to a broader audience.

Sarah's adaptability and versatility were evident in her roles at Graphtech, where she seamlessly transitioned from Publications Manager to Sales Manager, Financial Director, and eventually President over 13 years. Her diverse responsibilities included collaborating with PAMIC (over eight years) on the PULSE publication and partnering with numerous companies on print/digital publications and brand marketing campaigns. As President, Sarah successfully led a team of almost 50 employees.

Sarah's leadership skills were honed and proven when she took on the role of Executive Vice President for the International Adventure and Trampoline Park Association. In this capacity, Sarah not only oversaw all aspects of the day-to-day operations, strategic and financial planning, membership retention and prospecting, and database/website maintenance, but also managed an organization with members spanning North America, the UK, Asia, South & and Central America, and Australia. Her ability to navigate diverse international landscapes underscored her exceptional leadership. Sarah was also responsible for reporting legislative activity in all 50 states to her Government Affairs Committee and Board of Directors focusing on industry regulation, employee and customer safety, and taxation issues.

Sarah's academic achievements have also played a significant role in her professional success. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Shippensburg University, where she developed a strong foundation in her field. Her Master's degree from George Washington University further enhanced her knowledge and equipped her with advanced skills that she has successfully applied in her roles. Sarah and her husband and two daughters live in Camp Hill, PA.

    Mutual Insurance Day

    Tuesday, May 13, 2025
    Hilton Harrisburg & Capitol Building

This event is for PAMIC members only.

The mutual insurance industry is undeniably a heavily regulated and legislated industry. In this environment, insurance employers and employees alike recognize that decisions made by these officials can impact their success for many years.  This adds an element of responsibility for those in the industry to  be engaged in the political process.  There is no better way to learn about the industry's regulatory climate and to have your voice heard than collectively at PAMIC's Mutual Insurance Day.

At this important and free-to-members event, you will have the opportunity to hear from PA Insurance Commissioner Michael Humphreys, as well as be updated on the most pressing issues that could impact the insurance industry.  Take advantage of this event to update seasoned employees or educate new employees of the ever-changing regulatory environment and how it affects operations.

9:00 - 10:00 a.m. Women in Leadership - Closing the Gap One Rung at a Time

Julie Webb, founder of JMW Collective and prior insurance industry professional

The insurance industry is female-dominated. That's right! 59% of professionals in the sector are women. But the real gap isn't in the workforce; it's in the leadership. Only 22% of C-suite positions are held by women. Why does this matter? Because it's a business imperative. Companies with gender-diverse leadership teams are 25% more likely to outperform their peers. The disparity is no longer just about the "glass ceiling." The real culprit is what researchers are calling the "broken rung." This refers to the unique challenges women face in securing those critical first promotions that set the stage for future leadership.

Join us for an expansive conversation on closing the leadership gap. We'll explore the professional journeys of men and women in the workplace through milestone mapping and gain valuable perspectives from women in the C-suite arena during our interactive panel. Together, we'll uncover solutions for more women to rise and lead at the highest levels.

11:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. From Overlooked to Optimized: Unlocking Hidden R&D Tax Credit Gold in Insurance

Patrick Rogers, Tax Principal & Research and Development Director, Brown Plus

The insurance industry is no stranger to innovation—from underwriting algorithms to customer-facing digital tools. Yet many of these advancements quietly qualify for substantial R&D tax credits that often go unclaimed. This presentation uncovers the untapped potential hidden in everyday operations, demonstrating how insurers can identify, document, and maximize their eligible R&D activities. Backed by a strong track record in the insurance sector, we’ll share real-world examples of how companies have turned overlooked initiatives into significant tax savings.  You will gain clarity on navigating the complexities of R&D tax credit regulations while aligning with your organization’s innovation goals. We will cover key qualifying criteria, insurance-specific opportunities, and practical steps for compliance and optimization. Whether you're exploring the credit for the first time or seeking to enhance your current approach, this session will provide actionable insights to help you unlock what may be a goldmine in tax benefits.
