About the Discussion

Watching PA politics is great sport.  Remember ABC’s Wide World of Sports’ “Thrill of Victory and the Agony of Defeat”?  That is the summary of the 2022 election.  But how do we get there from here?  It all begins with the Primary election where nominees are chosen but as important, the winner of the General Election is frequently chosen in the Primary thanks to the political makeup of the particular district.  This program will look at various contests particularly in the open seats and will discuss whether the Commonwealth will end up tending Bluer or more Red.  The backdrop variable is the final shape of the redistricting map.

About Vince Phillips

Vince Phillips lobbied at the State Capitol from June 1989 through December 2020 (31 years), focusing on insurance and business issues. and has represented a wide variety of insurance agent and business groups. Some of his insurance advocacy includes representation for the Independent Insurance Agents of PA (the Big I), the PA Association of Health Underwriters, the PA Association of Life Underwriters (now known as NAIFA-PA), and the Crop Insurance Agents Association of PA, an organization that he started. Besides his support for Mutual Insurance Companies and their agents at the State Capitol, of particular interest to PAMIC members is his long-term service with the SPARKS Club Clinics 2003-2016.  SPARKS Club represented field marketing representatives for Mutual Insurance Companies. The types of insurance on which he has worked include Personal Lines and Commercial Insurance, Health Insurance and Employee Benefits, Surplus Lines, Life Insurance & Annuities, and Crop Insurance. Before moving to Pennsylvania, Vince worked in Washington, DC for ten years.  He was named to President Reagan’s 1980 Transition Team and was appointed to a post at the U.S. Department of Agriculture in the Reagan Administration. He holds, a Master’s degree from the University of Notre Dame, a Master’s of Public Administration from the Maxwell School of Syracuse University, and a Bachelor’s degree from Indiana University South Bend. Vince and his wife Claudia reside in Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County.  He is a non-published writer of science fiction and fantasy, claiming that it helps him to better understand public policy and the legislative process.
