Tony Latini, Managing Director, Boenning & Scattergood
After almost a decade of strong M&A activity and generally good industry-wide results, COVID-19 and early CAT losses have begun to create challenges for the P/C sector. What does this mean for M&A among small and medium sized insurance companies, and how COVID affect this part of a company’s strategic outlook? What can PAMIC members do to position themselves to utilize M&A as a growth strategy? This presentation will address those topics and provide:

1:00pm - 2:00pm: Litigation and Business Interruption Update
Scott Rybny, Chair Insurance Coverage & Extra-Contractual Liability Group, Morgan & Akins, PLLC
The nation and the world continues to grapple with (and predict) the potential impact of Covid-19. Everyone from small businesses, to state and federal governments, and insurance regulators is looking at the insurance marketplace as insurers and re-insurers deal with the unprecedented disruption of normal business operations stemming from forced government shutdowns. In comparison to the non-stop focus on the business interruption litigations, relatively few have discussed the other ways in which Covid-19 impacted insurers. From claims, to underwriting, employers, and investment managers every business sector of insurers is facing its own distinct challenges.
In this presentation, attendees will receive not only an update on the current state of the Covid-19 business interruption litigation (including the potential financial fallout) and also how those actions may impact the actions of Pennsylvania legislators, insurance regulators, and insurers for years to come.
