Scott played key roles in the success of Griffin Financial Group for the last 10 years, a time characterized by his tactful executive stewardship that was founded on nearly five decades of experience in the insurance industry. Esteemed among clients and colleagues, Scott was known within the industry for providing strategic advice and financial and transactional solutions. His career trajectory, from reinsurance executive to serving on seven boards of directors of various insurance companies, attests to his unique professionalism and exceptional business acumen.

Scott attended the U.S. Air Force Academy, and earned a B.S. in Marketing from the University of Maine. He was a licensed private pilot and an avid golfer.

Kathleen C. Dalton, 45, of Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, March 9, 2021.

A loving and caring woman, Kathleen had a vivacious personality. She was devoted to her family and time spent with them was most important. Treasured memories were made on many trips to Brigantine Beach and yet the simplest of things, like caring for her home she shared with her husband , brought her great joy. Kathleen had quite a green thumb and tended to her herb, vegetable and flower gardens. She was also a talented cook who took recipes and made them her own. Kathleen was incredibly proud of her Irish heritage and music by Springsteen and Fleetwood Mac could always bring a smile to her face and a spring to her step.

Born in Camden, Kathleen was raised in West Deptford and Washington Township. She was recently Director of Operations/AVP for Pennsylvania Lumbermens Mutual Insurance Company.

Beloved wife of 8 years to Joseph S. Ambrose; loving daughter of Lawrence and Christine (nee Sweeney) Dalton; devoted stepmother of Riley and Connor Ambrose; dear sister of Sandy Dalton. Kathleen is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. She will be missed by her canine pals, Brody, Kenz and furry pals, Maddy and the late Buddy and Doc.

    Farewell Tribute.

A Celebration of Kathleen's life will be announced at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kathleen's name to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, www.jdrf.org or to your local ASPCA.

PAMIC’s Insurer members make investments in people, technology, marketing, education and product development allowing you to compete in the insurance marketplace.  Yet a balanced regulatory system – that is fair to consumers and insurers alike – is critical to our success.

We ask you, as an employee, director, or officer of a PAMIC Member, consider making a contribution to PAMIC’s Political Action Committees.

Our PAC support elected officials and candidates, regardless of party affiliation, who are willing to listen and learn about matters affecting the insurance industry.  Legislation and regulations present significant risks to PAMIC Members and the insurance industry. We continue to face countless public policy challenges that include:

    • Threats to the state-based insurance regulatory system

    • Increased regulatory costs and taxes

    • Limits to our use of data to set rates, underwrite, develop new products and settle claims

Every year, PAMIC and PAMIC PAC bring issues important to the mutual property and casualty insurance industry before government leaders and policymakers. The year 2020 was no exception to the importance of having well-established working relationships, particularly with the added layers of a global pandemic and legislative elections.

    YEAR-IN-REVIEW -- 2020

    • Implement weekly information sessions with the Pennsylvania Department of Insurance during the emerging pandemic

    • Identified liability and workers’ compensation issues related to Covid-19

    • Advocated for fairness in industry fees and reform to budget allocations related to the Insurance Regulatory and Oversight Fund (IROF)

    • Supported candidates running in state House and Senate races (98% success)

    SUCCESSES OF PRIOR YEARS

    • Act 41 of 2018 dealing with the Insurance Departments use of contractors, and in bringing common sense to the exam, the process became law giving us greater visibility and control over the exam process.

    • Act 68 of 2018 dealing with the Uniform Construction Code allowing for the swifter adoption of construction standards allowing for more resilient structures.

    • Act 111 of 2018 correcting a constitutional issue addressing the use of the American Medical Association guidelines to determine injured worker impairment ratings.

    • Act 117 of 2018 ensuring the Insurance Departments solvency accreditation related to Corporate Governance and limiting the Department’s use of outside vendors in reviewing these disclosures.

With the uncertainty that the new year will inevitably bring, PAMIC is striving to keep its membership up to date on the strategic plans that we have for the future.

Mutual Insurance Day will be held virtually via Zoom on Monday, February 1st to provide the membership with legislative and political updates. The keynote speaker this year will be Dr. Terry Madonna, Director of the Center for Politics and Public Affairs and Professor of Public Affairs at Franklin & Marshall College. The legislative appointments and customary ice cream social will be held later in the year if and when it is deemed safe to do so again. Click here to register at no cost!

The Annual Spring Conference will be held virtually via Zoom as well on March 17th-18th, 2021. The agenda will focus on education surrounding the current economic and political landscape, as well as extreme weather, and COVID-19 implications in the mutual insurance industry. Continuing education credits will be available for this event. Registration will be opening later this month, please visit the PAMIC website for more information!

At this time, PAMIC is looking to move the Claims Summit to be held slightly later this year in mid-May at the Wyndham Gettysburg. PAMIC hopes this will allow for an in-person conference with all effective and necessary health precautions in place. Additionally, at this time PAMIC also plans to host the rest of 2021 events in person. Below are the details:

Executive and Board Roundtable: June 9-10, 2021: Omni Bedford Springs

114th Annual Convention: August 1-3, 2021: The Hotel Hershey

Financial Management Seminar: September 8, 2021: The Hershey Country Club
