Lisa Katterman was named by the Board of Directors to serve as the new President of the Pennsylvania Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (PAMIC) in May, 2022. Prior to such time, Ms. Katterman served Penn National Insurance in Harrisburg, PA, for over 27 years. Most recently, she acted as the Sr. Corporate Counsel and Director, Industry Relations and Compliance for Penn National where she was responsible for legal, government and industry affairs, and corporate compliance and ethics matters, as well as acting as administrator of the Company’s political action committee.
Although her official role as President began this year, Lisa’s service to PAMIC spans decades where she served as Board of Director, Chairman of its PAC Trustee and Government Affairs Committees, as well as Convention Committees. She has served as Chair and Committee member on numerous other state trades, as well as being heavily involved in national industry trade associations over her career, including serving NAMIC on its Federal Affairs Committee.
Katterman received her Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from West Virginia University, where she actively served on the University’s Board of Governors and attended Widener University School of Law in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, receiving her Juris Doctor degree from that institution in 1992. Ms. Katterman was a founding member of the Women’s Law Caucus at Widener.
Voted in 2006 as a Rising Star Lawyer in Pennsylvania and one of the Top Young Lawyers in Pennsylvania in 2005, Lisa has served as corporate counsel forging meaningful relationships within the community, local, state and federal government, as well as, within the insurance industry. She formerly served as 2008-2010 President of the Board of Directors of the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank and the 2010-2012 President and former Board of Director of the Association of Corporate Counsel in Central PA. She more recently served as 2019 President of the Pennsylvania Defense Institute, a statewide insurance defense association, where she has served as an officer or director since 2008. She also remains active in Women in Pennsylvania Government Relations, the Pennsylvania Association of Government Relations, Pennsylvania and Dauphin County Bar Associations, and St. Thomas Moore Society. She serves as a volunteer for the United Way, where she is a member of the Women’s Leadership Network, the YWCA, Central PA Food Bank, and Caitlin’s Smiles. She has spoken on a variety of topics including federal and state compliance initiatives, in-house practice, regulatory and governance frameworks, legislative issues and legal trends. Ms. Katterman was a 2008 recipient of the YWCA Women of Excellence Award. She is admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and the U.S. Supreme Court. Ms. Katterman lives in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and is the proud mother of three grown children.

On behalf of the PAMIC Board, we ask you to celebrate with us as Lisa Katterman joins PAMIC as its new president! Lisa will take over the reins on June 6, 2022, and transition for a few weeks with Ron Gallagher before his retirement on June 30.
Please join us in welcoming Lisa to PAMIC in her new role. Through her 20 plus years of experience with PAMIC, she has held various roles, including Government Affairs Chair, Board Director, Convention Committee member, and PAMIC PAC trustee. In addition to her PAMIC service, Lisa has led several professional and non-profit organizations. She has served as President and Board member of the Pennsylvania Defense Institute, President and Board Member of the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, and President and Board member of the Association of Corporate Counsel in Central Pennsylvania. Lisa has steadily advocated for the insurance industry during her career, both at the federal and state levels, while serving in many leadership capacities, serving on the Federal Affairs Committee and Compliance Counsel for NAMIC and various committees for the American Property & Casualty Insurance Association.
Lisa comes to PAMIC with a Finance degree from West Virginia University and a law degree from Widener University School of Law. She is admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the State of New Jersey, and the U.S. Supreme Court. Lisa's 28-year career with Pennsylvania National Mutual Casualty Insurance Company (a PAMIC member) has prepared her well for this role. Her experience with Penn National Insurance gives her a unique insight and knowledge into the mutual world - experiences that will benefit all PAMIC members. At Penn National Insurance, she served in various roles, including Senior Corporate Counsel, Director of Government Affairs, and Director of Industry Relations and Compliance.
Lisa is an excellent fit for PAMIC and will lead with distinction, honor, and service to our association. We look forward to your support and seeing you at the Greenbrier for the 115th Mid-Atlantic Mutual Advantage Convention on July 31!

Insurance Commissioner Jessica Altman has resigned as PA's Insurance Commissioner effective February 25, 2022, and taken a new position as the CEO of Covered California.
Covered California’s Board of Directors announced Tuesday the appointment of Jessica Altman as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Altman currently serves as the insurance commissioner for the Pennsylvania Insurance Department. She is charged with regulating the Commonwealth’s insurance marketplace, protecting consumers, and ensuring their health insurance needs are met. She will join Covered California with a wealth of experience concerning the Affordable Care Act, having played key roles in the Obama administration during the early establishment and implementation of the law, and as the chair of the Pennsylvania Health Insurance Exchange Authority, where she led the establishment of Pennsylvania’s state-based marketplace.
Mike Humphreys, Pennsylvania Insurance Department chief of staff, will serve as acting insurance commissioner following Altman’s departure.
