When training employees, employers usually think of job related skills, programs used daily, safety, harassment, and other organizational policies. What is often not focused on is cyber security training, which is becoming increasingly more important in the workplace. Recognizing cyber threats and knowing how to handle them is a skill all employees should have, and on which all employers should offer training.

    RECOGNIZE PHISHING.

Phishing is something to which employees fall victim quite often. An email may look legitimate, but replying to it can cause detrimental damage to the employer’s equipment and/or data. Train employees to recognize the telltale signs of phishing and know what to do when it happens. Training will ensure employees are less likely to be confused as to whether an email is trustworthy, and gives you peace of mind as an employer in knowing your data is a bit safer.

    TRAINING DRILLS.

Have you ever seen the fire safety episode of The Office? Think that, except with an infinitely better outcome. Since experience tends to be the best teacher, training drills are one of the best ways to help employees learn cyber security techniques. Send fake phishing emails, stage a data breach, or simulate a hacking to put employees right in the situation and then see how they would handle a true cyber attack. They may not take all of the right steps, but they will learn from their mistakes without harm to the employer. Hold a meeting after the drill to go over employees’ actions. Without singling anyone out, focus on what was done right, and what could be improved upon if a real threat were to occur.

    WEBINARS.

There are many webinars that focus on cyber security that can be helpful to show your team how to spot and address cyber security threats. These are engaging, interesting, and hold your employees’ attention, all while taking the pressure off you as the employer and put the teaching in the hands of an expert.

    STRESS PRIVACY AND SECURITY.

Make it clear to your employees thar cyber security is a matter of privacy, safety, and security and it is of utmost importance to the organization. A breach can adversely affect the organization’s data, which, in some cases, can include not only customer data, but employee data as well – something employees may not realize. Training in cyber security will help keep every aspect of your organization’s data safe.

    IMPORTANCE.

Comprehensive and frequent training can be the difference between neutralizing a threat or losing valuable company data, if not interruption of operations altogether. Just because the threat isn’t tangible or visible, doesn’t mean it isn’t there. Proper training of employees on this important issue will help ensure your team understands the seriousness of the matter, and empoweres them to take proper precautions if a threat arises.

PAMIC would like to welcome Nuvento LLC and Morgan & Atkins to our association.

    What is Nuvento LLC

At Nuvento, we believe that “Digital” is a mindset and Technology is only a guide to achieving full digitization. As a “Digital Tech firm”, we are committed to creating customer success by helping them build great user stories while transforming their traditional businesses with a Digital Mindset and technology ecosystem that is best suited for their business model. To accomplish this, Nuvento has combined its years of technology expertise, delivery experience, industry knowledge and its intellectual property to create an approach model called ‘Digital First’. Our journey started in the year 2007 when Suraj Arukil and Manoj Manathumaril, two of our co-founders felt that organizations needed to look at data as their asset and not as a byproduct of their larger initiatives like CRM or ERP. An organization must always look at newer ideas and challenge itself to deliver better results for their customers, employees, partners and investors. To truly enable innovation each idea must be nurtured as a “New Venture”. It is this motto that has helped us to constantly innovate and create strategic capabilities in terms of industry expertise, technology partnerships and innovative frameworks. Nuvento (A shortened version of “New Venture”) was thus born to organize enterprise and socially available data to create a 360 Degree view of the organization. This would enable enterprises with critical insights, build predictability and develop prescriptions towards achieving their organizational goals, thus starting the journey of Nuvento towards the exciting world of Data and Analytics.

PAMIC relies on a vital core of volunteers to serve on its many industry specific and educational committees. Volunteer recruitment is a critical aspect of PAMIC’s success and is only offered to PAMIC members! The committees are responsible for formulating the educational programs featured at the association's annual events by:

    • Identifying emerging issues and trends in the mutual insurance industry at committee meetings

    • Staying connected with other companies in the Mid-Atlantic region to ensure event dates and contents do not conflict

    • Contributing leads and ideas to PAMIC’s Event Director and respective committee chairman on credible and engaging speakers or presentations

    • Providing insight on logistical issues, extra curricular activities such as receptions or golf outings, how to raise attendance, etc.

    • Promoting the event and it’s exhibition and sponsorship opportunities to those in the mutual insurance industry and its supporters

So, what do you get out of volunteering on a committee? With over 200 mutual insurer member companies and countless associate members such as tech companies, law firms, claims adjusters and more, you are bound to make meaningful and worthwhile connections! In 2019, a total of 100 volunteers were recruited to serve on PAMIC’s committees and each annual event was met with great satisfaction from our attendees. Consequently, PAMIC strives to give special acknowledgement to those that dedicate their time and effort to ensuring success at our events. In turn, this is great exposure and recognition for your company in front of a large audience. Depending on your level of involvement, you may even receive a free registration for the event that you worked so hard to plan!

If you are interested in serving an organization that has been dedicated to the mutual insurance industry for over 110 years, click here to register or for more information: https://pamic.info/event-3477973

*Please note: even if you had volunteered on a committee for the 2019 year, it will not be assumed that you are continuing in 2020. Please click the link above to re-register.*
